Message From the Commander

Greetings Team Gold Star Post 191!
I hope 2025 has brought blessings to you, your families and your loved ones. These past few years have seen tremendous growth and success for the entire Gold Star Post Team ! Calendars now full of events for you, our teammates, with community engagement, and active support to Veterans and families in need. In a few short years we have increased our rolls by 20%, every organization growing and building. 2025-2026 should see us to over 800 members, as a member of 800, We could close the Legion Year as the seventh largest post in Maryland !, along with our partner organizations, representing over 10% of our own Mount Airy Community.
We host our traditional programs; the Legion Birthday Program in March, Memorial Day in May, and Veterans Day in November, participating with our sister Organizations and Mount Airy in 9/11, Wreaths Across America and the Town Veterans Day Ceremony. We reached out to the community with the Community Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Safety BINGO, Line Dancing Events, ELVIS in the Hall !, OKTOBERFEST outreach, Sportsmans Drawdowns, New Years Eve Bash, SAL Drawdown, Craft shows, Dinners and many others. It's our goal to do every event and engagement as a team with partner teammates; SAL, ALR, ALA because "a high tide raises all boats". We now hold Installations of Officers and Scholarship presentations in a Joint Ceremony to show the magnitude of our collective efforts. Of course (this is a "first world problem") we keep our shared team calendar so full in providing events for our team, help is always needed, I would encourage attending the meetings of your organization, Legion, Auxiliary, Sons or Riders and help us continue at this pace.
2026 and beyond will continue with the level of calendar events and engagement that we owe our members. We will continue to strive to be "the place to be" in Mount Airy, vibrant and active in what we provide back to you and your family, always giving back.
In closing, soon it will be election season, and we will be accepting nominations for all partner organizations this Spring, if interested, please contact any post partner organization Officer. Congratulations on a fantastic year, thank you for what you do, for each other, for our Veterans, and for our community.

For God and Country!

The American Legion Family

  • The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within The American Legion. The SAL is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The American Legion.
  • The American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest patriotic service organization. Through its nearly 10,500 units located in every state and some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. Along with The American Legion, it solidly stands behind America and her ideals.
  • The American Legion Riders is a diverse group of motorcycle enthusiasts sharing common goals. All are members or spouses of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of The American Legion, and all are united by patriotism. They answer the call to ride in service to America’s military, her veterans, and for the children and youth of our country.
