A Veterans’ Association Devoted to Mutual Helpfulness

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans’ organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a nonprofit community service organization that now numbers nearly 3 million members, men, and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide.

Message From the Commander

To my fellow Legionnaires, Legion Auxiliary Unit Members, Sons of the Legion, and Legion Riders, my very best wishes in having a fantastic 2022.  We have weathered the tragic COVID circumstances we found ourselves in during 2020 and 2021, and come out together as a family.  I would like to make this year a year of renewed partnerships, renewed friendships and comradeship. We are bound together by our devotion to mutual helpfulness in supporting our Veterans, our community and our next generation as they continue to serve this great country of ours. I would like us all to demonstrate, not only our commitment to the community, state, and nation, but to each other, as we re-grow a vibrant Gold Star Post 191. A place of fellowship, a welcoming inclusive atmosphere, where we solidify the bonds of service and enjoy the company of those dedicated to the same mission. An active calendar, catering to the young and the experienced, with entertaining events for all, in a place where we all  come together.  An impactful organization, known throughout the community for our works, for our capability to serve and deliver on our commitment, and for being "the place to be".  An engaging organization, drawing to its ranks every eligible qualifying member, man, woman, or child in our community, growing our Post and more importantly, expanding the reach of our mission; service to our Veterans, our Community and our Youth.

For God and Country!

Sam Weinberg, Commander

The American Legion Family

  • The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within The American Legion. The SAL is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The American Legion.
  • The American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest patriotic service organization. Through its nearly 10,500 units located in every state and some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. Along with The American Legion, it solidly stands behind America and her ideals.
  • The American Legion Riders is a diverse group of motorcycle enthusiasts sharing common goals. All are members or spouses of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of The American Legion, and all are united by patriotism. They answer the call to ride in service to America’s military, her veterans, and for the children and youth of our country.
