A Nonprofit Community-Service Organization
A Veterans’ Association Devoted to Mutual Helpfulness
The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans’ organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a nonprofit community service organization that now numbers nearly 3 million members, men, and women, in nearly 15,000 American Legion posts worldwide.
Message From the Commander
My name is Bob Barker, Commander, and it is my privilege and pleasure on behalf of the American Legion Gold Star Post 191 to welcome all members of the American Legion Family and thank you for being a part of this great organization.
The American Legion was built on strengthening the nation – not serving themselves – through four primary pillars of volunteer work on behalf of: Veterans, Defense, Youth, and Americanism.
We are pleased to announce that the American Legion Gold Star Post 191 is open and operating under normal business hours. We are adhering to all executive orders and following National and Department of Maryland guidelines. Please be mindful that this has been a chaotic and stressful time for everyone and be patient with the bartenders while enjoying the newly updated lounge. Please observe the signs concerning masks and getting your food and drink requests from the service area.
We at the Post hope that you and your loved ones have remained safe and healthy during these extraordinary times. Our top priority at the Post is that our members and community remain safe and healthy.
I look forward to seeing everyone soon.
For God and Country!
Bob Barker, Commander

- The Sons of The American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within The American Legion. The SAL is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The American Legion.
- The American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest patriotic service organization. Through its nearly 10,500 units located in every state and some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. Along with The American Legion, it solidly stands behind America and her ideals.
- The American Legion Riders is a diverse group of motorcycle enthusiasts sharing common goals. All are members or spouses of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of The American Legion, and all are united by patriotism. They answer the call to ride in service to America’s military, her veterans, and for the children and youth of our country.
